Join us here to discover the tough decisions we’ve had to make, the biggest failures we’ve had to bounce back from, and the learnings that emerged every step of the way. We are so grateful that we have the chance to share it all with you right here on Scale With Success®: The Podcast Built for Course Creators™. Let’s get started.
I feel like we’ve all had this feeling from time to time where it’s like, oh my gosh, we’re starting to experience some success. We’re starting to move towards our next goal, but we have this fear running through the back of our head where we’re thinking like, it’s all going to disappear or it’s like, I don’t even know what singular thing I did to get to where we are right now, but I am so scared that it’s going to like dissolve. And I can’t even stop to enjoy this new level of revenue that’s coming in because I can’t even sleep at night because racing through my mind is like, oh dear God, what’s going to happen once this stops? And this is really common. And I want to share what I do to combat this because the reality is that there was no, if we’re thinking, what is that singular thing that I did that really led to my success? I can’t think of anything singular.
And so therefore this must have just been a fluke. I don’t even know how it happened, but the reality is that there is no singular thing for anyone. Nobody has that. It’s a series of all of these micro events that have led to where you are now. What I do is I keep a running achievement list. And so I’m going to give you guys this homework assignment, which is to list your achievements in life and business that led you to where you are today. So all of the hard things that you did that you had to then overcome, right? What are they? List them all. You should have at least 50 things. There should be 50 or more, because it’s like, whatever. It could be like winning the spelling bee in the third grade, it could be anything. Right.
But the reality is that doing all of those hard things and working through all of those specific obstacles, like even when it comes down to like I remember the very first webinar I did. I was like, what in God’s name am I doing? I had no clue. And it was so scary. And the whole time I did it, my camera was off. And I didn’t know until the very end, but people still bought. And then I didn’t know how to open the chat. So at the end I saw all the chats of people being like, we can’t see you. We can’t see your face, but they heard me. And so I did make a couple sales of that. But how many people do you know who have still been putting off posting on social media, or sending an email, or doing a webinar or all those little micro events that build up to where you are today?
So it’s not a fluke just because you can’t think of that one thing, that one reason why you are successful. There is no one reason. It’s like a series of events. Even if we’re in a tough spot at the moment, if there’s a baseline and then there’s positives and then negatives, it’s going to be up and down for everyone. So just because you’re zoomed into this one specific down place that you are right now, if you were to change your perspective and zoom out, so you could see the full line, like all the things that have happened within your life. You’re like, oh my God, this literally is just a blip because I’ve had this and this and this up, down, up, down, up, down, up down, right?
The achievement list is good. And then anytime you have to do something hard, read your achievement list right before it to just remind yourself like of all of the things that you have done and all the risks that you took and all of that, that you feel proud of. I still do that. I have to look at my achievement list and then it gives you that reassurance like, okay, yes, I can do this because I started a strawberry garden or whatever. But all of those little things they really do build up over time.
