Today I’m sharing the #1 way you can double your course sales in 30 days – not by changing ANYTHING about your course, but by changing the way you TALK about your course.
Everyday I meet a course creator who is struggling to make sales. They often find themselves questioning whether nobody wants their course OR if the only way they can sell it is to spend tons of money on ads.
Sometimes these course creators are thinking they need to lower their price or worst of all – do another big fancy launch.
If that’s you, then today’s episode is going to be extremely helpful for you because the strategy I’m going to share today doesn’t require you to do ANY of that.
The strategy is composed of two simple steps – but, they can be deceptively simple. What I mean by that is that SIMPLE does not equal EASY. It will take a bit of trial and error to execute, but the results are 100% worth it.
So, as you’re listening, if the first thought that pops into your head is “I know that” then you’re not really listening.
Let’s begin.
1. Identify the “Main Character” Problem Your Course Solves
People buy your course to help them solve a problem, which means that you need to be crystal clear about what specific problem your course helps people solve.
Now, I get it. Your course might solve a lot of problems, but in order to effectively market and sell your course online, you need to LEAD with one core problem.
I call the core problem your course helps people solve, your “Main Character” problem. The Main Character is the star of the show and your Main Character Problem is the star of YOUR SHOW.
It’s not to say that your course can’t solve multiple problems, but if you don’t lead with ONE core problem, you are going to confuse the heck out of people and a confused audience never buys.
Focusing your marketing efforts on helping people solve one problem SOUNDS simple, but it’s certainly not easy.
It takes time and experimentation to identify the Main Character Problem that your audience identifies with the most.
Once you identify your Main Character Problem, you’ve got to speak about it – a lot. Your Main Character Problem needs to be featured absolutely everywhere: your website home page, your social media bio, your social media posts, your free masterclass title, your free masterclass content, your emails, your sales page, your blog (if you have one), your podcast (if you have one) – everywhere YOU are online.
Wherever you go, your Main Character Problem follows.
Here’s the deal – your ideal customer is going to connect with your brand more than once before they buy. Maybe they see your social media post, then then check out your social media bio, then they click on your free masterclass page, then they watch your free masterclass, and THEN they buy.
So, if you are touching on completely different problems each step of the way – your audience is going to shift from curious to confused – and when they’re confused they leave.
Don’t be afraid of sounding repetitive. What reads as repetition or boring to you reads as consistent and trustworthy to your ideal customers.
When you first get started selling your course, your Main Character Problem is likely going to change frequently – and that’s ok because if you’re tracking your data the right way, you’ll be able to clearly spot when you have a winner.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, is entitled to success on their first try. If you have that – great! But, you’re not entitled to it, nor should you expect it. Be willing to put something out there, investigate the results, and try again.
As long as you are committed to achieving your goals even when you make mistakes, even when you meet unexpected challenges, and even when you’re not moving as fast as you’d like to be moving – you will get to where you want to go.
The faster you’re able to bounce back, the faster you’ll grow. Don’t let one (or a series) of setbacks completely derail you from getting what you want. Growing a successful business isn’t easy, but it’s doable as long as you keep putting one foot in front of the other.
So, you’ve identified your Main Character Problem and placed it everywhere – then what?
2. Identify What Makes Your Solution Different From Everyone Else
Now that your ideal customer is locked into your content because your Main Character Problem is featured all over the place – how do you keep their attention and how do you leverage their attention into a sale?
It starts with being able to identify AND clearly articulate what makes your approach to solving their Main Character Problem different from everyone else.
The minute your solution starts to blend in with ALL the other stuff they’ve tried before – you lose their attention.
Your ability to position your solution as unique and different is what will help you stand out (even without a big marketing budget). There are people in your space, who have a huge marketing budget. They started from zero, just like you, but they’ve grown overtime and now they can pay to have their Main Character Problem and Unique Solution shared all over the place.
But, here’s why that’s good news for you.
Since your audience has likely heard the same message from others over and over again – they want something new and YOU are the person to offer it.
Your Unique Solution is like a lighthouse in a storm, cutting through the noise of everyone saying the same thing in the same way.
But, here’s the tricky part. You have to focus on what makes your approach to solving their problem different AND that main point of difference has to be something they actually desire. Not something that YOU think they SHOULD desire, what they ACTUALLY desire.
I see so many course creators latch onto an angle that positions their solution as different, but their audience doesn’t care about that angle. So, the course creator wastes tons of time, money, and energy trying to jam this thing down their audience’s throat and they get SO FRUSTRATED that it’s not working.
If the point of difference that makes your solution unique is not desirable, then you need to try a DIFFERENT point of difference. You can move. You can shift. You can let go and really tune into what your audience wants.
You may need to run through a bunch of different points of difference before you land on one that REALLY resonates with your audience – and that’s ok.
Just like it takes time and experimentation to identify your Main Character Problem, it takes time and experimentation to identify what makes your approach to solving their problem DIFFERENT from everyone else. Different in a GOOD WAY, not a bad way.
When I look at the online course landscape today, I’m inspired.
Everyday I encounter a new course creator online who is putting a message out there that is unique and different.
I know the hard work that went into creating something that is simple, concise, and highly desirable.
