A few of my favorite things from Rexhill Furniture.
The biggest job hazard I have in working with so many interior designers and home furnishings brands is that I want to renovate my place every two seconds. For. Reals. My husband already has to deal with my frantic emails that include a zillion Redfin links, so I try to keep my grand ideas about furniture arrangement and Shibori pillows to myself…mostly.
I was doing some research for an interior designer in Brooklyn when I came across Rexhill Furniture’s Instagram a couple months ago. Aside from the fact that their work is gorgeous, they seemed like friendly folks. Their Instagram feed was filled to the brim with behind the scenes studio work and process shots. Being accessible and opening your studio doors is one of the best ways a maker can connect with their audience.
1. Who are you, what do you do, and how did it all begin?
We are a husband and wife team who handcraft furniture and accessories in the beautiful Hudson Valley. We started Rexhill Furniture to preserve the warmth and appeal of traditional craftsmanship, but with a contemporary sensibility. Our aim is to create enduring work that hopefully will be used and loved for many years to come.
2. Where can we find you on SM (social media)?
Instagram: http://instagram.com/rexhillfurniture
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/RexhillFurniture
Pinterest: http://www.pinterest.com/rexhillfurnitur/
Twitter: https://twitter.com/RexhillNY

3. What is your favorite hashtag?
#beaconny I love to attach our work to where we live, because we are so proud to be a part of our community. Also, I love #handcrafted.
4. Why do you use SM?
It depends on the social media platform. Instagram is our favorite because of the strong visual element and the connection to the creative community that also uses it. Pinterest is amazing when we are developing new ideas, creating mood boards, and gathering inspiration. We are relatively new to Twitter, but it is great for making more business connections and for following trends and events. Facebook is how we connect with our personal community, friends, and family.
5. Which tools do you use for creating or posting content?
We usually use our Instagram to post to everything else, except Pinterest. For us it is the easiest and most interesting platform. The share buttons help, too.
6. What effect does SM have on your business?
It gives us a presence online and has helped forge new connections. It’s a way to share the process of design and fabrication, and to build or create a picture of who our company is beyond what you might find on our website.
7. How do you measure success on SM?
Well sometimes it’s likes and shares. But sometimes, it’s just a new connection.
8. What aspect of SM do you find most challenging?
The diligence of posting weekly, sometimes more than once a week. At times it comes naturally, but at times it is something that we have to think about and dedicate more time to.
9. What makes you follow another brand back?
Sometimes it’s just that they have followed or like something of ours, sometimes because their posts are inspiring or we admire their work.
10.Which brands have SM you admire?
Kaufmann-Mercantile always does a great job of sharing their products out in the real world, but also keeping this consistent, cool, and refreshing perspective throughout. Rue Magazine and Lonny Magazine also inspire us, and Manrepeller makes us laugh.
11.Any advice for other brands just getting started on SM?
Just do it! The more energy you put into it, the more the rewards. It can take time to build connections, but eventually they will happen. I think it’s more important to be yourself, and to let your unique perspective showcase your work and talents. Depending on your business goals, keep your posts professional, but human – unless sharing your personal life is part of your brand. It gives
