Have you ever been curious about what exactly goes on in a mastermind? Like, why are they such a big deal? WHY do course creators go gah gah for masterminds?
I’ve been in the same mastermind for the last three years and today I want to share three reasons WHY I chose to join a paid mastermind, plus you’ll learn the TRUTH about why I have no plans to ever leave.

So, first things first. Let’s get clear on what exactly IS a paid mastermind??? A paid mastermind is a highly curated group of people who gather together either online, in person, or both, to help each other achieve their goals. The VALUE in the mastermind is in the curation, which is entirely up to the host.
In my experience, the more specific the mastermind is, the better.
For example, the mastermind I created is called ALTITUDE and it’s exclusively for course creators who are already generating at least $250,000 per year in their business. This ensures that the material we discuss is relevant to all members.
We even have a SECRET level for course creators making over $1,000,000 in annual revenue, where our discussions are ONLY relevant to someone making over $1,000,000 per year.
Now, most of you know I run a group coaching program called Scale with Success® which is for course creators who want to scale their business by automating the sales and marketing of their signature course.
Well, ALTITUDE is DIFFERENT. I’ll talk more about how it’s different from Scale with Success® in the coming weeks, but for now…what you need to know is that the MOST IMPORTANT difference is that Altitude is ONLY for course creators who are making over $250,000 per year.
As the host, this allows me to cover topics outside of the sales and marketing content that Scale with Success® includes and dive really deep into things like team building, leadership, mindset, and how to create new offers OUTSIDE of courses. ALTITUDE members are hiring their first employees, structuring their own sold out masterminds, and creating NEW in person events to grow their business.
We have a private community online, we meet virtually once a month, and we also meet in person for a two day event THREE times per year.
So, we get to know each other PRETTY well. And that connection is IMPORTANT and INTEGRAL to the success of each member. Everyone in the group is there because they want to go ALL IN. They have a BIG VISION for their company and they are committed to creating a serious impact in their marketplace and the world.
I absolutely LOVE connecting with course creators like these who are DRIVEN to make a positive change in the world with their products and programs.
So, let’s dig into the 3 reasons why I chose to join a mastermind in 2017 (and WHY I have been in the same mastermind ever since!)
Reason Why I Joined A Mastermind #1: I wanted to THINK BIGGER.
Back in 2016 I was at a conference and the speaker on stage invited us to write a vision for ourselves WITHOUT judgement. He said, “If you were 100% guaranteed to reach the vision you created for your company…what would that vision be?”
So, I opened my journal, grabbed a pen from my purse, and began to write.
To my utter shock and surprise, I wrote down: I am the owner of an 8 figure business. I am impacting the lives of millions of people.
Now, I had NO IDEA that THAT vision was inside of me. But, there it was, written on my notebook in black and white.
In that moment I realized that I had been playing small because I wanted to be “realistic”, I didn’t want to risk SETTING a big, crazy goal that I had NO CLUE how to reach. I was more comfortable setting “realistic” goals because I was more interested in NOT FAILING than I was in actually winning.
If you’re like me, you grew up hearing things like:
“Don’t get your hopes up…” “I just don’t want you to be disappointed if it doesn’t work.” “That’s not realistic.”
I had been programmed to think small to avoid failure and doing so was LIMITING my potential.
I needed to take radical action to shake things up.
I needed to THINK BIGGER and SURROUND myself with others who were pursuing similar goals.
Reason Why I Joined A Mastermind #2: I wondered what would happen if I played FULL OUT and ALL IN.
Here’s the truth. I knew masterminds were a major investment and that did freak me out.
But, what REALLY freaked me out was imagining that I’d wake up one day and realize that I let fear keep me from going ALL IN and reaching my full potential.
Have YOU ever felt that way? Just thinking about it gives me the full body shivers.
In the long term, the investment amount was a drop in the bucket compared to the results I was able to create for myself.
Now, the OLD me would not have spent $25,000 on a mastermind…but, I wanted to let the OLD ME GO.
Committing to a mastermind was EXACTLY what the new me would do.
The new me was THANKFUL that there was a $25,000 price tag because it meant that ONLY people who were REALLY serious about growing their business would join. I wanted to surround myself with people who were EQUALLY committed as me to playing full out and ALL IN.
Reason I Joined A Mastermind #3: I craved outside perspective.
I knew I had blindspots and NEEDED outside perspective. I didn’t want a bunch of rah rah people agreeing with me and telling me, “You got this.”
I wanted brutal honesty about my business. The kind of honesty that could only be given by others who were ALSO in the arena, playing full out and going all in.
I was ready to be called out on my bullshit in order to get to the next level. I knew, deep down, that I was put here on this earth to serve others. Yes, I wanted to make more money…but I also wanted to change lives…to make a DIFFERENCE.
The best part of a mastermind is that you are surrounded by a diverse range of perspectives.
There have been countless times when I’ve brought a specific challenge to my mastermind mates and one person says ONE TINY THING that completely shifts my perspective and propels me forward.
So, WHY have I been in the SAME mastermind for the last 3 years?
I’m the type of person who likes consistency. One of the biggest contributors to my success and why I’m able to generate millions of dollars each year is that I have learned how to FOCUS.
Focus is a skill, just like any other, that can be practiced and developed over time. I used to have terrible focus and was constantly jumping around from idea to idea. Not anymore.
While I don’t need someone to help me focus, I do need help staying in momentum from time to time. When I feel stuck and I can’t think my way out, I immediately bring my problem to the mastermind.
Again, these are TRUSTED peers. People who are just like me, playing full out and going all in.
I also consult my mastermind anytime I’m thinking of doing something big in my business.
I’ll bring my big idea to the group and ask, “What am I NOT seeing? What questions do I need to be asking myself right now?”
The feedback I get from peers I respect is invaluable.
I don’t think I will ever NOT be in a mastermind. It’s too important. There’s too much at stake for me to go it alone.
Masterminds are NOT for everyone, especially beginners. But, if you are already making $250k/year in business, you need to seriously think about joining one.
I’ll be back next week to cover some important questions to consider when it comes to choosing a mastermind that’s right for you.
